This Brave Nation

I love the idea of hosting film screenings at home. I remember how thrilled I was when I got a group of friends to watch The Corporation with me at my former, more spacious apartment. After spontaneous “oh’s” and “ewwww’s” mid-viewing over things like recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone, we followed with a conversation on some important questions that came up after what we just saw. Now there’s a new series I’m eager to share. This Brave Nation focuses on intergenerational conversations between progressive activists like Carl Pope and Van Jones.  I’m so excited to see people who were at the birth of certain movements talking with today’s leaders, and who they’ll pair up next. The first season just wrapped and with a $15 donation, they’ll send you two DVD’s, one to keep and show at home, another to give away.  You can search for screenings by zip code, or host one yourself and post the date to the site. The project also includes the Brave Nation Young Activist Award to celebrate our next generation of leaders.   The first five episodes are available at full-length on the site, so I may take a sneak peak at an episode, but for the rest, I’ll have to get myself to a screening or hope that a friend or two will get cozy with me and my laptop in my studio apartment, as I’m sure I’ll be ready for some good conversation after viewing. Enjoy!
