In order to keep prices down, Wal-Mart is opting to purchase more and more of its produce locally, which they define as anywhere within a specific state’s borders. The move is due to rising fuel prices combined with an attempt to green its image. On the one hand, the optimist in me wants to see this as a good thing for local farmers across the country, but then I worry for those farmers that will have to deal with Wal-Mart and their drive for the lowest price possible.
