LOL..........and speaking of Karl Rove, lol, whom I had been thinking of all throughout this article,of how the Tibetan "monarchies" have created and used their own "language" to sell their product: the Ubiquitous Enlightenment-to all the cynical, discouraged, vision-less, pseudo intellectuals, and dang it, you interjected him (coincidence?, an unconscious blunder perhaps?) before me.

The Sakyong: the Karl Rove of Tibet, churning out that "enlightenment" machine, getting rich off it. And yes, they know their capitalism.

For all the talk about "what about me" I found this article w/a man who for all practical purposes, inherited from Daddy Enlightenment his job: Canned Monarchy. And how hysterical it is that this Royal Huckster is speaking of the selflessness of 'do-gooder-ism' when seated on a throne, dressed in robes, who'll get in a round of golf in between that "packed" schedule he had ahead of him that day.

He must have almost spit out his breakfast when the interviewer drew a parallel btwn him/teachings and Karl Rove, Just too funny. Thx for this article-serves as a total reality check.

Timing is everything and this article was in total sync as the topic of discussion over the past few days and knowing there are no coincidences along with the planetary alignment of last week where the "goddesses of discord descended" discussions were about "the entitled, narcissistic remnants of the me generation" people who continue to make others uncomfortable in their presence. I see no reason not to state your lineage if that's how it is the problem is the "little princes and princesses" without this lineage will no doubt continue to push & test boundaries and trying to rule from a point of fear and intimidation playing the game of who gets the most attention wins no matter what the spiritual cost the path of ruling with power and money without authenticity and compassion will no doubt find you standing alone in the long term. Even your pets will walk the fine line for they know you have to feed them but they may not really "like" you.

Loved this article...I will keep trodding on this path.

This article could not have had better timing for me for this topic was all the rage for my group on the wkend. With the planetary alignment of last week where the "goddesses of discord descended" and my wondering about the ongoing situation of dealing with "the entitled ones", "the narcissistic ones", "remnants of the me generation" in the relationships with siblings and mates. This article just confirms that I am on the right path..The fact that some people continue to use abuse and manipulate and at the end of the day they will "stand alone" because they lack compassion and authenticity (fakes). Princes, Princesses it doesn't matter your lineage. The question was answered for me "do you rule by fear where people do your bidding through fear. Or are you a compassionate being where people are motivated out of love and comfort therefore "naturally" offer their co-operation and are willing...getting the best out of each other than the worst.

Great stuff loved it and will re-read again!

Wonderful interview. Would love more of these. Maybe a series.

Much of what Sakyong talks about comes up in conflict resolution. The "what about me?" view is usually where one starts the journey. The mediator guides the parties on a journey toward relationship. I cover these variables in Taming the Wolf with a western point of view — including that of Francis of Assisi the Universal Brother who was a well-known peacemaker.

(BTW, if you need to capitalize a major company, a stock broker can be helpful. And companies that produce products and provide jobs come in handy. And some people find brokers helpful in managing their assets. Elephant could even figure out clever ways to underwrite new forms of journalism with the help of a good broker. Maybe someone should start Good Karma Kapital.)

Nice interview.

However -- the featured photo for this article is a stand alone great photo (Corey)... but seems like an awfully strange choice for this article (Waylon). In an article in which the Sakyong talks about ruling one's world, royalty, kings, etc... the photo is loaded with implication and could give out the wrong message, especially to those not familiar with the Shambhala teachings.

whats with all the references to royalty?
i didnt know tibet recently had kings, it had a government- and a ruling class most definitly, but its new to me that they were called kings and princesses?
i dont like to see it in dharma, smacks of the divine right of kings, something most of us with peasant ancestors had to struggle against fairly hard to overcome now its in the dharma?and didnt the buddha abandon his own kingship?
though other than that , i like what mipham has to say
