Lawn Green: “Getting a little brown? Just spray it”

I was watching TV (gasp!) and on CNN they were showing a video of some guy spray painting his lawn green.

Um ok.

Of course I am immediately concerned for the little ants and bugs and whatever else may be stuck in the green abyss and for all the environmental implications.  I guess they think the green abyss is a good thing…

“INSTANT GREEN!”

Forget the white picket fences, this is waaaaay better.

Or is it? I was so shocked (yes, ok. I live in Canada) that I ran up to my computer to see how toxic this stuff is and wondering the whole time how in the heck has it come to this? Al Gore would be outraged.

So I was told that anyone can spray their grass green and not harm the environment too.

Here’s the recipe for Lawn Green from Wisebread:

  • One full can of regular pop (any kind-no diet soda)
  • One full can of beer (no light beer) Who drinks the stuff anyway?
  • 1/2 Cup of Liquid dishwashing soap (do NOT use anti-bacterial dishwashing liquid)
  • 1/2 Cup of household ammonia
  • 1/2 Cup of mouthwash (any brand)
  • ** have heard also Epsom salts are good
  • Pour into 10-gallon hose-end sprayer (other sizes will work too)
  • In high heat, apply every three weeks

I think if you used non-toxic soap it would be ok, but the ammonia? The mouth wash??!! I mean that stuff will kill anything in it’s path. I am not sold. It’s just too strange.

This recipe is the All American dream, beer, mouthwash and soda. How good can it get?

Tell us what you think…
