Playing for Change: Peace Through Music.

Via on Dec 9, 2008

Via my friend Jesse Matthew Elliot of Idyllwerx art, design and film production. Playing for Change is a “multimedia movement created to inspire, connect and bring peace to the world through music.” A documentary film and music will be available in the spring of 2009, but for now you can watch a really beautiful clip of musicians across the world singing, “Stand by Me.” The participants are mainly street musicians which is why I think it all works so well, buskers have heart. The project also supports a music school and arts center in South Africa and Tibetan refugee centers in India and Nepal.

Mark Johnson, the producer was on Bill Moyers twice after they got so many responses from the first airing that they decided to do a long interview. The spontaneous dancing in the slums of South Africa had me weeping with the beauty of it all. Music unites, religion and politics divide. Check out “One Love” too, amazing! Thanks Waylon, thanks Bill!

Sorry Lindsay! I should have thanked you, your friend Jesse, and Bill Moyers. Also, the documentary was co-directed by Mark Johnson and Jonathon Walls, but produced by Joe Carnahan. My apologies to all for not checking my facts better. Again, thanks Lindsay, it’s an amazing experience to watch and listen to. A whole body, heart, and soul groove. “Let’s get together and feel all right…”
