“We can’t bring these animals back, but we can send a message that only people truly struggling to survive have any excuse for wearing fur.”
In the past, PETA has used donated furs in library displays, anti-fur fashion shows, street theater, and other educational events designed to convince consumers that animals should never be “fashion victims.” Now, the animal rights group is giving them to the homeless.
PETA and PETA Europe have previously distributed fur coats to the homeless throughout the U.S., UK, and Canada. The groups have also shipped donated furs to war widows and orphans in Iraq, Afghan refugees, and to needy people living in the mountains of Lesotho.
[During Obama’s inauguration,] we’ll already be on the streets of D.C. handing out fur coats to the homeless. Yep, you read that right. See, fur does nothing to raise a person’s social status. On the contrary, only if you have nothing do you actually have any real excuse for wearing someone’s cast-off fur.
