Book review: Natural Great Perfection: Dzogchen Teachings & Vajra Songs (Nyoshul Khenpo & Lama Surya Das)

This collection of teachings and songs compiled by Lama Surya Das is a very approachable text focusing on the Dzogchen teachings of Tibetan Buddhism. The translations of the Vajra songs are particularly well done and are not as awkward as translations of texts can sometimes be.  The book also includes a glossary of words and terms used throughout the text, which is pretty useful for readers new to Buddhism as well as more experienced students.  The teachings themselves are worth reading more than once in order to capture some of the more subtle concepts presented in them and are well-written enough that they won’t get boring with multiple readings.  Printed in the USA on recycled paper from Snow Lion Publishing and available from your local, independent bookstore.  (Tell ’em you saw it on Elephant Journal.com!)
