They look you in the eye and think "he's gonna believe me" and you might! You might also believe that posting "affirmations" on your walls will make you rich. There was a columnist for Colorado's Nexus Magazine who constantly wrote on such subjects, and then died in a double suicide when real legal troubles caught up with her and her boyfriend. I believe in magic, but I know that our fossil-foolish ways can destroy all our dreams. Feel cosmic energy, but don't suck physical energy the earth can't sustain. For example, Einstein, who knew something about energy, thought cars were obscenely consumptive. He thought cars should have engines the size of lawn mowers. If they did, cities would have pretty good air, vanishingly few traffic accidents would be fatal, and global warming would be far less.
