Signs of Spring: snow, sun and tulips—all at the same time. Folks wearing flip flops, shorts…and a coat. And, of course, the first bounty of your local farmers.

Don’t miss the opening day of the 2009 Boulder Farmers Market season on this Saturday, April 4th at 13th St., between Canyon and Arapahoe, two blocks south of the Pearl St. Mall.

Oxford Gardens Offers CSAs for 2009.

I worked for many years at Naropa University and Shambhala International. In late 2006, after too many years, months and hours hypnotized by my computer, I was possessed by a troublemaking local earth spirit of some sort—and the seed for Oxford Gardens was planted. This temporary bout of creative insanity—and the move from the white collar world to the green collar—has been auspicious, and my little farm is expanding production.

Oxford Gardens is a three-acre market farm near Niwot, Colorado, about eight miles northeast of Boulder, Colorado. Inspired by a passion for growing things—and a strong demand in Boulder County for local, naturally grown produce, we began vegetable production in early 2007. Now well into our third growing season—early April to mid-November—our team includes John and Felicity Brown, Liz Kriso, Jared Hagood and a group of volunteers.

For the first time, Oxford Gardens is offering a CSA program (Community Supported Agriculture). CSAs help to stabilize the production of local agriculture, and offer regular weekly deliveries of vegetables for share holders [for information on CSAs, and to sign up, go to oxfordgardensboulder.com, call 303.817.9676 or email [email protected]].

Wander by Oxford Gardens’ stand, now at a new location at the Market outside the Dushanbe Teahouse (just north of the Farmers Market booth, where the market sells t-shirts and Market Bucks.)  At the first market we’ll have some very fine, early lettuce, Swiss chard, arugula and baby kale. After that, watch for weekly offerings of mountains of delectable vegetables, increasing and increasing until the season peaks in late summer. For those wanting to get their hands in the earth, check out our volunteer program.

See you at the Market!
