7th Annual Garden Tour on Mapleton Hill: Where the world meets in the heart of Boulder

7th Annual Garden Tour on Mapleton Hill: Where the world meets in the heart of Boulder

In Boulder, on April 23rd, 60 fourth grade students walked from Whittier Elementary to Goose Creek to collect water. Then they walked back to school. Each student carried one gallon of water and watered the school trees. In addition to educating themselves about what some people have to do every day in different parts of the world just to get water, they educated their community about it as well and raised over $900. A great success, I would ad, especially after finding out $750 is more than enough to bring safe water, toilets and hygiene education to 10 people for life!

Whittier International is school is one of the 2,634 schools in 135 countries that educates our children of the world with The International Baccalaureate (IB) program. They are “motivated by a mission to create a better world through education, promote intercultural understanding and respect, not as an alternative to a sense of cultural and national identity, but as an essential part of life in the 21st century. With their program they encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.”

In Boulder, Community members describe Whittier as a “school with heart” and agree that that they provide tremendous advantages for students, helping them to become “citizens of the world.”

Fortunately for us, this Saturday, June 6, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. the Whittier International School presents another awesome program and invites us all to launch into the planting season, touring select gardens in historic Boulder neighborhoods.

Ten all new private gardens will open. Landscapes are nicely varied and created by prominent landscapers and home gardeners alike. Proceeds benefit Boulder’s Whittier International School, a public elementary in the heart of downtown, and tickets are only 10 dollars! There will be food, music and the awesome sensation that community gives; with the power of unity anything is possible.

See you there!

love
