Pearl Jam was the formative band of my youth, singing with heart and guts and honesty in a media/music space formally occupied by boy bands and top 40 idiots. I remember Rolling Stone saying they saved our lives—and at the time it didn’t feel like an exaggeration.

While there were audio problems on this first night on Conan O’Brien‘s new Tonight Show stage (he just replaced Jay Leno, for those of you living a media-lite existence), and Eddie Vedder looks a little…well, 17 years older than when Pearl Jam change the lives of me and my college friends and much of our generation…the song roxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. How cool is it to be Matt Cameron? Drummed for Soundgarden, and now Pearl Jam.

I don't remember too many boy bands pre-1992. maybe New Edition. I mostly remember horrible hair metal around that time.

I moved to Seattle in 1993, and though most of the big-name bands were still together (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains), and some of the energy was still around–you could tell that the ship had begun to sail and what made Seattle a "scene" was largely gone. 1989-1991 would have been the time for that. catch a show at the OK Hotel or the Central in Pioneer Square, etc. can't believe that was almost 20 years ago–damn!

This is a great new song! Eddie performed a few months ago with Ben Harper, Sheryl Crow, Paul McCartney, Ringo, and others at a David Lynch Foundation benefit concert, and I was there! It was SOOOO awesome!!! He still kills it! There are some exclusive interviews with him and the others at http://dlf.tv that are really cool :D And you can see some of the concert there too!

I LOVE that Pearl Jam has stood the test of time, like a trusty pair of LL Bean boots. They were THE band my friends and I obsessed over in high school. Eddie Vedder's solo album for Into the Wild is breathtaking, imo. Long Live Pearl Jam!

sorry Waylon–forgot about NKOTB. I think I blocked it from my mind. Your mind apparently has "The Right Stuff!"

  6. I'm stoked that Pearl Jam is still rockin'. They were a life changing band for me as well, and definitely helped me through the emotional upheavals of high school.

  8. Hello People! Just wanted to tell you that I got tickets to the Sheryl Crow concert on Jul 16th. In this place you can find tickets for other dates too. It’s astonishing Sheryl and his band performance, this is my third time and I’m still so excited about listening him live! On this page you can see the section where you’re buying the ticket, so it’s very recommended!
