Nadia:

Great question. I just started Twittering about two weeks ago. I started following a few of the business (and non-business) thinkers that I admire. Then I started getting some followers. Who are they and why are they following me? I could figure out why some people might follow me. Others, I wasn't so sure. Here is my biggest guideline so far: If you tweet about trying to get 1,000 or 10,000 followers just for the sake of getting followers, chances are that I will not follow you. Just like blogging, content is king for me. If you offer some good content, amusing content, interesting content, something that isn't spam, etc. I'll follow you. I still follow a good percentage of the people that follow me -- but for those people who are just trying to be popular for popularity's sake I won't follow

Great article, Nadia! Twitter is such an interesting site and it's so hard to know what to do in terms of following and not following and unfollowing. Thanks for writing about this topic -- very interesting!
