The Perfect Pairing: The Kitchen and Boulder’s Youth ~ via Kimbal Musk.

The Kitchen to donate 20% of proceeds from Community Night

to support

The Growe Foundation and the School Food Project.

The below (lightly edited) press release came to us via Kimbal Musk and our friends at The Kitchen, a nationally-recognized green and local food minded restaurant and lounge in Boulder, Colorado. It seemed wonderfully worthy and inspiring to share as is, though we normally don’t print press releases. ~ ed.

The Kitchen will donate 20% of all proceeds from its Community Night dinner every week to support the efforts of the Growe Foundation and the School Food Project—groups that work to educate Boulder children on better eating and our environment.

Monday night at The Kitchen has become synonymous with “Community Night.” Large groups of friends, families, couples and singles come together for Community Night in order to give everyone in Boulder a chance to get to know more faces and eat great food at their favorite local bistro. The food is presented family style, and the menu changes each week based on the season.

The Growe Foundation, through a community outreach approach, supports interactive programming that ignites our inquisitive nature and allows each participant to reach an understanding of the interconnectedness of our planet. Growe’s elementary school program, Garden to Table, provides BVSD schools with the resources and support necessary to build school gardens and create hands-on learning opportunities that tie into grade-based curriculum.

The School Food Project’s vision is that all children of Boulder Valley School District will have daily access to fresh, flavorful and nutritious food made with wholesome and, when possible, local ingredients.

The Kitchen is a community bistro located in historic downtown Boulder and is open seven days a week. The menu evolves seasonally and reflects the simple and straightforward preparation of comfortable classics. The Kitchen [Upstairs] is a relaxed wine and beer lounge, also open seven days a week. Rustic food is prepared in a wood-fired oven and complements one of the best beer and wine lists in Colorado.

The Kitchen believes in protecting our environment.

  • Wind power provides 100% of the restaurant’s electricity and
  • we recycle or reuse nearly 100 percent of our discards.
  • All of the paper products and straws are biodegradable, and
  • we give the remaining uncooked food and open bottles of wine to our staff at the end of each shift.
  • All of The Kitchen’s food discards are composted and often find their way back to the farms they came from.
