And that Hummer is in a handicapped spot too! I wonder if there was a handicapped sticker in the window.

I'm sure that Hummer driver was congratulating him/herself for being so kind and only taking one parking spot (as opposed to the normal two...sideways...we often see here in Texas.

"... a vegan driving a hummer would be contributing less greenhouse gas carbon emissions than a meat eater riding a bicycle" Captain Paul Watson, founder of the Sea Shepherds ( http://ow.ly/p7R0 )

I commented on this here as well http://ow.ly/p7tm

Yes, anyone who's read "Omnivore's Dilemma" surely knows that Whole Foods is not the paragon of green living. The amount of fossil fuels used to transport New Jersey organic strawberries to Honolulu is ridiculous. It's not shocking to see a Hummer parked outside of whole foods. In fact, it's rather apropos. Now, if we switch the image to our local co-op or farmers' market, that would be more ironic.

What the heck is LOHAS?

Regardless, let's not pretend like everyone that shops at Whole Foods is a hippie or loves the earth before all others. Maybe it's someone who considers shopping there another status symbol. Maybe it's a person who loves his/her body enough to buy organic, but doesn't bother with things like cutting their carbon footprint. Maybe it's someone who has already made changes in their lifestyle, but hasn't been able or willing to part with the platinum-plated status symbol vehicle yet.

Besides, let's also not fool ourselves about just how "green" Whole Paycheck is anyway.
