The Hampsten.

I ran into ol’buddy ol’pal Rob Coppolillo yesterday, all geared up in what I like to call the official Boulder superhero outfit: spandex, and lots of it, cycling shoes, bike helmet. The full monty. He was riding a Hampsten—and described how it can be unscrewed, taken apart, shipped in a box no wider than yayyy big (see photos, below, and no he’s not describing that fish he caught of…you know).

Why is this bike photo worthy? It’s part of a family of one of the coolest bike companies on earth, and a Boulder-based one at that. The legendary Andy Hampsten lives here in town, we’ve been longtime acquaintances, we’ve even ridden a few blocks together, which gives me the technical right to say “I’ve ridden with Andy Hampsten.” He’s also a gentlemen, everyone loves him, an avid cook, he leads cycling/wining/dining tours in Italy, and he’s the man behind this bike.
