Elvis is as Yoga Does.

“Yoga is as yoga does…” Anyone types out these unforgettably cheesy yoga lyrics in the comments section, I’ll owe you one. Ca-lassic.

With thanks for the tip to @CoraYoga via twitter!

  1. This is hilarious and enlightening! I just didn't know that Yoga as workout routine was so advanced it could be spoofed at such an early date. I had the impression that happened after the Beatles/Woodstock era, but apparently it happened long before that.

Anyone know the date of this film? Thanks for sharing this with us.

  2. Rick Gilbert says:

According to IMDB, it's from the film "Easy Come, Easy Go," released in 1967.

  3. The fact that this film came out in 1967 is actually an excellent history lesson for those who tend to stereotype the late '60s. There were a lot of things going on back then, not just the Beatles, Viet Nam and Woodstock!

  4. Wow…this might be the coolest yoga video ever…if also the most clueless…okay, maybe there's a good bit of competition for that…still, ya got give credit to anybody who rhymes "serious" and "posterious"…thanks for sharing it!

  5. I didn't see that movie, but it reminds me why I need to check out "Mad Men." I remember the 1960s.

  6. Suzanne, Yes that's the era, exactly! "Mad Men" is pretty good. Get's a little slow in places, but very entertaining overall.

  7. Hilarious! Elvis is suprisingly flexible in those tight pants.

  8. Paramahansa Yogananda was one of the earliest Yoga Masters to come to America, Swami Vivekananda (from the Ramakrishna-Vedanta tradition being the earliest). Mataji Indra Devi was also teaching in the 1940s and 1950s. She even taught Yoga to Gloria Swanson. So, Yoga was known in Hollywood. Then came Swami Vishnu-devananda, Swami Satchidananda and other Yoga masters in the early to mid-60s. Swami Satchidananda, my Guru, gave the opening talk and led chanting at Woodstock! Elvis himself, as most know, was deeply spiritual and an avid Karate student, but he was also interested in the Yoga philosophy. He read Paramahansa Yogananda's books, visited the Lake Shrine whenever he was in California and he did Yoga and meditated. So, I have to think that he was happy to poke fun at himself in "Easy Come, Easy Go" a philosophy he always struggled to follow. Thanks for posting this Waylon! OM Shanti

I’ve always had rockabilly in my heart ‘cause of being named Lisa Marie and being born the day before Elvis’ birthday. [...]
