[...] Sorry, you can’t: I get a ton of emails from PR agents about books or moisturizers or exercises that will help you and I to “reverse aging!” “Say young forever!” “erase wrinkles!” “Grow your hair back!” I’m all for fear of death in everyday life, helps dull the exquisite miracle that is daily life, but lemme remind you and I of something: even if you’re young, death is but a moment away. Life is uncertain. Carpe Diem. For more. [...]

" inner peace and happiness—which is the only way I’ve ever known any old timers to look young (thinking of you, Robert Spellman and Joan Anderson)."

Haven't seen those two in a long long time but I bet they are still beautiful!

“Ageless Body/Timeless Mind” is actually an excellent book. But it’s excellent because the inside doesn’t begin to match the promise of the cover and title. So your questioning the title is entirely justified.

Chopra is a real puzzle. If you look at the actual content of his work, he is a modern sage of the Upanishads (one of the three main ancient Yoga texts, along with the Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutra). He comes across the same way in his presentations, which are just dripping in the one-with-the-universe message of the Upanishads and Gita.

“Ageless Body/Timeless Mind” is actually a well thought-out and deeply inspirational update of the philosophy of the ancient Yoga sages. “Timeless Mind” makes perfect sense in this context, because according to Yoga philosophy we are all part of the ocean already, not just a wave, and since the ocean (the universe) is timeless, so are we.

When you get inside the book “ageless body” means not living forever, but rather the fact that our molecules all turn into other things and continue on, with a lot of detail from modern quantum physics, and the fact that we might someday figure out how to arrest aging. Certainly not what’s implied by the cover.

I believe Chopra is, in fact, a modern Yoga sage, carrying on the central message of the ancient sages in a modern context. But he either creates or allows a marketing effort that can make him look like a lot of fluff.

I like his writing so much I’m willing to put up with the silly upfront hype. The books I’ve read so far are really terrific and not at all quackery.

I would love to hear other opinions about this, because I’ve only read a few of his many books.

You must of not read the book. Anyone who read the book would have known that the title is just an eye grabber.
"younger" as he states in th book consists of chronological age, physiological age and mental age. SOME of nutritional, physical advise is provided only to support the mental and spiritual body. Therefore a person feeling more vital, happy and alive is one that feels, looks and lives younger. Thereby creating a much more meaning full purposeful life into your waining years. I think that is what the true message of this book.

There were three comments on this post, Intense Debate lost them perhaps, I dunno. They were:

It is as you point out, spiritual materialism. Whether it's ageless bodies or the easy promises of Law of Attraction, we look for completion outside, and these money-making authors count on that. Be awareness, and release, and the rest works out beautifully.

I feel older this year really for the first time, I'm 47. At the same time, I feel wiser spritually, and more aware. If I had to trade the second feeling for the first feeling, I'd turn it down. However, really focused living, yoga, healthy healthy food, and managing stress levels, retreating, and lifestyle activities, really does slow the aging process. I've SEEN it. The sooner it starts, the sooner the benefits kick in.

there's better stuff to do with our lives than steal meditation techniques that aren't yours, call them a new name, claim their yours and be a guru poser with a big heady clinic that caters to the celebrities. but i guess some haven't figured that one out either.
