Because other people’s right to Free Speech is nice, but Money is Forever.

We’ve posted on this phenomenon of Free Speech Capitalists readily caving to Communists before…Youtube and Google’s done it (despite their slogan, Don’t Be Evil). Then, Bing cravenly, greedily caved. Perhaps that’s why elephant has been banned in China.

Now, Apple caves in:

“We continue to comply with local laws,” Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller said in an e-mail when asked about the missing apps. “Not all apps are available in every country”

At least five iPhone apps related to the Dalai Lama are unavailable in the China store. Some of those apps — named Dalai Quotes, Dalai Lama Quotes and Dalai Lama Prayerwheel — display inspirational quotes from the Tibetan spiritual leader. Another, Paging Dalai Lama, tells users where he is currently teaching. A fifth app, Nobel Laureates, contains information about Nobel Prize winners including the Dalai Lama.

Click here for article. Still, the article is stupid, clumsy, wrong, hugely way off: the Dalai Lama does not advocate for freedom for Tibet, only political autonomy, the right to practice religion, and self-govern while existing peaceably under China’s rule. He’s more than happy to meet China half way, or more.

App Apt: How much $$$ would it take for you to censor the Dalai Lama? title borrowed with permission from our friend Bill Carroll’s tweet.

    Screw Apple…
Freedom of Speech, Religion and Right to Vote form the foundation of healthy society, yet these values are anathema to the Peoples Repubic of China. We keep saying that "inclusion" into organizations such as the WTO for China and awarding them the Olympics will change them. WHY? They don't to change!
The Peoples Republic of China want us to change, and we are! … for the WORSE… just look at Apple (screw them).
