40 Days to Freedom: Will You Take The Yoga Challenge? ~ Lindsay Jean Thomson

I know what you’re thinking. I’m a yoga teacher…shouldn’t I already be doing yoga every day? Truthfully, I do practice most days but lately I’ve been feeling stagnant in my practice. When you’re teaching double-digit classes each week sometimes the inspiration just isn’t there, even though it’s what I love to do.

Although I know how important it is to practice, my effort is lacking. I believe you get out of something what you put into it, and yet I have a talent for justifying whatever it is that I want to do in the moment. (embarrassing confession: a former co-worker once called me the id of our team.)

It’s a balancing act, like anything else – in this case, it’s between being self-aware/honoring how I feel and challenging myself. I have a habit of starting projects and not finishing them- and that’s not something I’m proud of. So here it is: my best friend Mary Beth, a Santa Monica based yoga instructor, and I are doing a 40 Day Yoga Challenge. In addition to practicing yogasana daily, I’m also going to be working on continuing my yoga studies through reading, pranayama and meditation. And I’ll be blogging as I go.

will you join us?

what: 40 days of yogasana+

when: monday, january 18 – friday, february 26.

where: everywhere and anywhere.

why 40?: why not?!

why really: discipline! I lack it.

how: my body, my breath.

and you look so fine

when you lie, it just don’t show

but i know which way the wind blows

40 days of yoga to freedom is the only chance i have

to feel good even though i feel bad

and i know that

oh i’m not goin’ back

oh, i’m not goin’ back

oh, god knows, i’m not going back

oh, i’m…not goin’

oh….i’m not goin’ back

oh, i’m not goin’ back

oh, god knows, i’m not going back

oh, i’m…not goin’

Sounds like we have a lot in common. I just finished my 200 hour yoga teacher training, struggle with a home practice and have trouble finishing projects.

So I've committed to daily yoga in 2010 and I'm blogging about it too.

  2. Nona says:

Hey! I'm a yoga teacher whose home practice really falls apart sometimes, too. I love the 40 days and even better, it starts on my birthday! YAY!

  3. catie says:

I just started a mala of sorts – 108 classes in 108 days – so I'm on board for the 40! I'm blogging it too! Day three…

  4. Whaddoowedo, just practice a bit every day for 40 days? Sounds tough..!

  5. Nicci says:

Count me in! I start my YTT next week too, so this is perfect.. I'll be cheering you all on and myself from Vancouver Island, much love and wonder of discovery to all! Nicci

  6. Cher says:

Not a teacher and don't have a blog but sure would like to join in. How?

  7. Tina says:

I'm going to be following your 40 day journey for sure! I have a couple of goals already in motion, or I would join you. Once those are met, though, I'd like to come back to your blog and do your 40 Day Challenge. Good luck!

  8. hollymar says:

I just stumbled on this and I love the idea. I'd gotten out of practice for awhile and wanted to get more disciplined, so I'll definitely participate!

  9. Sarah says:

alright. i guess im in too….. even though i keep trying to come up with excuses about why i won't be able to do it for 40 days straight…. but, im in. you've convinced me.

  10. Omigosh, I was just planning to do the same thing. As an instructor, I fall into the role of caretaker, CFO, CEO, creative director, organizational guru (ha! maybe) etc etc etc. I wanted to show clients that I get how challenging fitting workouts into your schedule can be, especially being someone who loves to sweat, have fun, and take care of my body. Look for your sister challenge coming very soon!
