I rarely use my LinkedIn profile; it’s one social site I still don’t get. Business-focused? Cool. Without all the bells and whistles? Fine. But tons of obstacles built-in to connecting with people? Linkedin can be discouraging.

In any case, I’m updating my profile (a long-ignored profile, it’s three years out of date). Figured I’d preserve this antiquated representation of ele and myself and our rocky road to Shangri-la:

Waylon Lewis’s Summary

My grandpa worked for Esquire in its heyday. My grand uncle was Lerner, of Lerner & Loewe. My other grandma was personal secretary to Ginger Rogers, raising my mom in strict Christian Science Musical fashion in City of Angels. My father, an editor and journalist and Republican and Buddhist. My mother, a founder of two schools and Shakespeare play director.

Myself, a Buddhist/eco/writer, founder of elephant journal, a little un-funded grassroots magazine dedicated to ‘the mindful life’–living a good life that also happens to be good for others, and our world. As a college kid I worked for Shambhala Int’l, and Shambhala Publications, in Boston. Later, I fundraised and PR’d for Shambhala Mountain. Then, a bit of grad school, then I got hooked into publishing–the family karma whirlpooling me (happily) down the writerly drain. In the next few years I hope to take elephant national, increase our circ to 300K, start a talk show and serve as the Jon Stewart of the Whole Foods demographic–folks who want to live a good life that also happens to be good for others, and our world.
