Really great article, Nancy. It adds a lot to other Elephant discussions of Buddhism and Yoga, some of which have focused more on their differences rather than their similarities (constructively I think).

In reality, there is great overlap between Buddhism and Yoga, which is not surprising given their common roots. Not only do both have a rich tradition of meditation, breathing, and philosophy, but there are forms of Tibetan Buddhism that have their own asana practices. "The Five Tibetans", which have become very popular in the West, are only the tip of the iceberg.

Thanks for all your great insights here.

What are the thoughts and if possible the science behind, using the yoga breathe to lose weight?

If someone in my classes ask me about this, I'd like to be able to answer this question intelligently as to how , where, when, to use this breath technique.

Thank you for your insight! Gaileee

First encountered Tias Little in a Yoga Journal article on the feet and was very impressed with both his knowledge and communication abilities. Loved learning that he knows cranio-sacral therapy. What a great work for a yoga and spiritual teacher to have! I look forward to hearing more about Tias and to studying with him in the future.

I am a student of Tias & Surya Little and Prajna Yoga and can only say that anyone reading this article and has interest in Tias' teachings should definately take one of his workshops. Being a graduate of Boulder College of Massage myself, his knowledge of anatomy and the body's wisdom is unprecedented. He and Surya create a safe, knowledgeable and nurturing environment even for the most experienced yogis & yoginis. I am doing my advanced teacher training with Prajna and feel like a sponge absorbing as much information as possible in a week and wanting to know more. It is great to practically apply to my classes this wonderful, insightful style of yoga that leaves me feeling refreshed like a summer breeze.
