This may be the first at-length interview in English I’ve ever seen re: topical subjects. Worth taking the time to watch, listen, learn, soak in this great good, happy “Simple Monk” and his views.

On Tibet and China:

“Actually, we are not seeking independence. We complain the present policy in Tibet. It is actually very much damaging about Tibetan religious freedom and cultural heritage…But other hand, we also do not want separation from China because Tibet, landlocked country, materially backward. Every Tibetan want modernize Tibet. So for that reason remain within the People’s Republic of China.”

  1. This is OK, I guess. But it's hard to listen to an airy Larry King interview after getting used to the depth of a Charlie Rose or any of the people on the PBS Newshour. I kept saying to myself, Ask the follow-up question, Larry. Ask the follow-up question. But he never did.

    We don't learn anything new when the conversations stays so close to the surface. The Dalai Lama come across well, of course. But I learned nothing new from this.

    Thanks for posting anyway.

  3. HJZ000 says:

    1. Dalai publicly says that Tibet is and should remain to be part of China;

    2. Every country in the world, including US, recognizes Tibet as part of China,

    But why "Poll: Most Americans say Tibet should be independent – CNN.com", http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/asiapcf/02/18/tibet.poll/i...

    Is it because the American people are generally ignorant of facts and world views or maybe the mainstream media is to be blamed?
