What if a parking spot became a park?

Boulder Park(ing) Spaces Day: Photo Slideshow.

My favorite Park(ing) Spaces:

The Cup, Tee & Cakes + Cefiore, Momentum, Real Baby.

What if a parking spot became a park? What if parking spot for one car was exchanged for a parking spot for 10 bikes? It could happen…we just have to imagine it, have fun with it…and do it.

The other day was our annual Parking Spaces day—a day when businesses can, for a small fee, give up a parking space and gain a 15 x 8 (or something) patch of imagination and community. It’s one of my favorite days—we’ve suffocated much of our earth in cement. This day shows us what it would be like if, like the Talking Heads song, we turned a bit of our parking lots back over to flowers and children and fun and…business. ‘Cause that’s the thing—those businesses that participate get so much more attention, make so many great connections.

1/3 of the photos below are by yours truly, 1/3 by Donna of Boulder Parking, and 1/3 by Sue Prant, of Bike Week/Month/Day. A few are also by Kristin Lewis, the architect behind the renovation of the Cefiore building.

Unfortunately, our Galleria isn’t showing it full size, so you gotta double-click. Also, I’m not able to caption.
