Catching Thoughts: AA vs. Life

I was doing some research on “quitting smoking” for the web series that I’m writing and was curious to see if there was a group that was like Alcoholics Anonymous but for cigarettes. There is. It’s called Nicotine Anonymous. Who knew? After reading about the 12 steps and noting how similar they are to my own process of healing (learning to trust and to take responsibility for my part) I was inspired to learn a bit more about what it is that people get from AA. So, I went and asked my friend who’s been in it for awhile. This is what she had to say:

    I don't understand the title. A.A. vs. Life? Should be A.A. Living Life! The 12 steps are a guide on how to live life for those of us who have lost our way due to chemical dependancy. This was a good intro to A.A. and a a great way to point out (once again) that we are all basically the same, looking for the same things.

      To me AA could be the the solution to the challenges that life deals. When you sit AA next to life, which one are you gonna choose to put your energy towards? You need something to manage life with.
