I woke up this morning to a Facebook posting from an old and dear friend, who writes:
Probably I don’t need to tell you that Dan Savage is awesome. Inspired to act by the suicide of another gay teen in a rural area (Billy Lucas, of Indiana who killed himself after enduring a lot of bullying in school), Savage created a youtube channel called the “It Gets Better Project.” I heard this on his podcast this morning and it moved me to tears, so I am sharing it here. Can’t seem to end this without saying something horribly cheesy, but this is important. So I am using the good old Facebook soapbox. Check it out.
Savage himself describes the project this way:
If you’re gay or lesbian or bi or trans, and you’ve ever read about a kid like Billy Lucas and thought, “Fuck, I wish I could’ve told him that it gets better,” this is your chance. We can’t help Billy, but there are lots of other Billys out there—other despairing LGBT kids who are being bullied and harassed, kids who don’t think they have a future—and we can help them….
