Portland: “Where Young People Go to Retire.”

Via on Jan 4, 2011

Portland. A city full of coffee-loving, organic-chewing, bike-riding, Mac-using, liberals. A bubble so to say. A bubble in which many of us are very happy to find ourselves. But that doesn’t mean you can’t poke fun at the bubble.

Enter Portlandia, a new series soon to premiere on IFC. One of the early released videos to promote the show has already made its rounds of Portlandites, but watching it never gets old. With good one liners like “all the girls wear glasses” and “in Portland, you can put a bird on something and call it art” this video is hard not to love.

Enjoy!

Rick Gilbert Other reasons to love Portland: Powell's Books, Hawthorne District, mobile food culture, McMenamins empire-including Edgefield 30 minutes away, beer geekdom to rival anywhere, micro-distilleries, pinot noir hq of the US, a few hours from the Pacific Ocean, uh-the Shins and other bands I'm not hip enough to know about.

      The Shins?
Portland is a pretty self-conscious place, and not terribly accepting of newcomers. There's a reason for that: you listen to the Shins and think McMenamins has the best beer in town.

Why is it that people of PDX dislike this show? it is bringing much needed commmerce for the city. I love Portland lived there for 7 years! I have to admit that some of the skits are lame, but i still dig the show. Cheers!
