32 Unusual Yoga Quotes that Jolt me Back to Center.

Via on Feb 5, 2011
I went on a search for quotes that move me and jolt me back into center.
Some of them I have been lucky enough to hear straight from great yoga teachers.  You will find that not all of them are from people recognized as “yogis” per say, but I would dare say they are all yogis indeed, in their own right.
I confess that #20 is my favorite, which one is yours?

one of my favorites is from mark whitwell: 'yoga is not the search for something, as though something is missing. yoga is the celebration of lif as it is freely given.'

King Farouk of Egypt. The Egyptian monarchy was ended soon after he said that. Witty, wise, prophetic, very Buddhist in message.

  8. Kimberley Rome says:

Claudia — thank you! I believe number 13 is Sylvia Boorstein, at least she has a book by that title … and 24, I love #24! and 29, and 19 …. Here's a poem for you:
Your grief for what you’ve lost lifts a mirror
up to where you’re bravely working.
Expecting the worst, you look, and instead
here’s the joyful face you’ve been wanting to see.
Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes.
If it were always a fist or always stretched open,
    you’d be paralyzed.
Your deepest presence is in every small contracting
    and expanding,
the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated
    as bird wings.
    ~ Rumi

  9. Tobye Hillier yogi tobye says:

yeah 20 for me too! It actually came to me while meditating one day, that I was scared of success and then I saw that quote from Marianne. It just makes complete sense!

    Thanks Claudia!

  10. Scott Robinson YesuDas says:

Great collection, Claudia! Swami V is one of my absolute favorites. "'Freedom, O Freedom!' is the cry of the soul" is another of his that I love, and this one one is possibly my favorite: "And here is the test of truth –anything that makes you weak physically, intellectually, and spiritually, reject as poison, there is no life in it, it cannot be true."

For Life as a Yogi, here's a couple from Francis of Assisi that I like:

"Preach the Gospel always. When necessary, use words."
"You may be all the Gospel your neighbor will ever read."

    • Love them all! Especially #14 and #19 . . . aaaand #32 sums it up nicely.
It's not about what you can do with those poses, folks!
      And always always #20.
Here's one to add; a Chinese proverb:
Tension is who you think you should be; relaxation is who you are. :)

      Thanks for the inspiration.

      • Ha! sorry I did not reply yesterday Jody, for some reason this mus have come after I was publishing a comment or other.. that is a great chinese proverb! so glad you shared

    • Ha, Freedom Oh Freedom, so simple, so beautiful…. and yes it is the cry of the soul, I loved it.

The second one is definitelly a keeper, I will repeat it to myself often, I think it is SO important to remember this, reject as poison anything that basically steals energy, totally!

Glad you share these with me, the ones from Francis of Assisi are quite funny actually, and so very true.

I appreciate you sharing these with me!

  11. Linda P says:

I like #16. That one works for me!

    • Yes I love 16 too, it is so revolutionary… I love Clarissa in general… have you read Women who run with the Wolves? I keep that book handy… for whenever I need soul soup…

  12. Jill Barth Jill Barth says:

    Namaste. Thank you!

  13. Lele says:

#1 is perfect for on the mat or off it.

One of my first yoga teachers, Dave Porter, would quote Darren Main and it has stuck with me since then:

“We spend our lives looking and searching in every conceivable corner of the world for that one thing that will bring us the fulfillment we desire above all else, only to find that it is glowing deep within.”

    • Very true Lele, if only if was that obvious, but fundamentally it is very true, wish I had not been so confused to begin with… wish times of more clarity are coming :-) thanks for your comment

  14. Hilary Lindsay Hilary Lindsay says:

I love David Williams post. So true. Thank you for this collection.

  15. Nice one Yoga Freedom… the Gita has some material ha!, loved it, thank you

  26. Stefanie Altic says:

This show was not for “somebody”. This show was for EVERYBODY! If you have made it out of the first grade then you have wronged someone else. If you survived that initial school experience someone has “wronged” you. Choosing to forgive (and you may have to “practice” forgiveness do it over and over until you find you have no more emotion about the original wrong) is the ONLY way to have a peaceful and successful life. Thanks, TC! I needed this!! Desperately. You CAN forgive and forget. But first you have to forgive BEFORE you can forget. As always my prayer for you is Peace and Blessings!!
