Facebook officially recognized civil unions and domestic partnerships today—a significant step forward toward equal rights for what is perhaps the world’s most powerful social forum on the planet—second only to, you know, real life.

Facebook’s Andrew Noyes, manager of public policy communications:

“This has been a highly requested feature from users. We want to provide options for people to genuinely and authentically reflect their relationships on Facebook.”

    as a tangent, ever noticed how there is no capacity to be married to more than one person?

    while that doesn't represent a problem in some cultures, does seem to provide an inaccurate social graph for those whose cultures accept plural marriage
