The Sacral Chakra is the center of sexual energy and of the ego. Desire, sexuality and sensuality are perceived by this chakra. It is the chakra of creativity, pure attention and pure knowledge connecting us to the inner source of inspiration. The Sacral Chakra is associated with passion and creativity – and the soul desire to feel.
The Sacral Chakra is four fingers above genitalia and is associated with:
the Water element
reproductive system, bodily fluids, ovaries, testicles
sense of taste
desire, sexuality, sensuality
When the Sacral Chakra is not functioning well or is out of balance oversensitive we may be unable to express our emotions, hard on ourselves, feel guilty for no reason, frigid or impotent, emotionally unbalanced, have poor boundaries, manipulative and/or may have sexually addictive tendencies. When it is functioning well and in balance, we are trusting, easy going, expressive, attuned to our own feelings and highly creative.
How to balance this chakra?
Yoga postures that benefit this chakra: cobra, boat, bow, cat, forward bends, reclining bound angle (photo to left – my granddaughter intuitively in the pose as she naps)
Aromatheraphy – ylang-ylang, sandalwood
Meditation – focus on the region of the chakra, envision the color orange and repeat a mantra (I am well in body, mind and spirit or something that resonates with you)
Gems and Crystals – Amethyst is a healing gem for this chakra and the Moonstone is the crystal for this chakra – hold one of them in your hand as you meditate or find a piece of jewelry to wear
