When it comes to the world of retail, hearing the word discount is like music to my ears. The heavens begin to part, sun beams through the clouds, and angels descend.

Now more than ever, people are surfing the Internet and hunting for a good discount, sometimes at the same time. It’s no surprise that companies like Groupon have been met by consumers with open arms – and wallets.

If you don’t already know, Groupon is a website that gives users new deals every week in their surrounding area ranging from restaurants, spas, and even beer or wine tours. They change daily and generally give over 50% off.

Here are a few other alternatives to Groupon that gives your wallet and Mother Earth a break.

Blissmo carries the slogan, “Buy good. Feel great.” It focuses on offering discounted products to consumers that are certified as organic or eco-friendly. These deals range from food to chemical-free skin care. The main focus of Blissmo is to offer a positive approach in business for both people and the planet rather than buying or selling products just because they’re “green.”

DealGooder is currently only operating in Orange Country, California, but the idea has potential to generate copycats. DealGooder gives one discounted offer a day and 50% of the profits are donated to a featured charity that changes weekly. One easy idea that gives back two fold.

ethicalDeal identifies itself as, “Daily deals from local green companies.” It operates in cities in Canada and the United States, offering the best green stuff to do around your city. All deals are environmentally conscious and save you over 50% on things such as eco-friendly cleaning services or activities.

Green Box Top, founded by two yoga instructors in San Francisco, gives discounts up to 90% to consumers that focus on green-related loot. Green Box Top gives consumers discounts and also donates a portion of the profits to non-profit organizations. Currently offering local deals in San Francisco, Denver, and Oregon.

Now go forth, buy – be green and save green!
