Please don’t ask a woman who has miscarried what she did wrong. It is amazing to me how women get undermined by this question. It starts with pregnancy and chases after us as women until we’re in the grave. Enough already. It's not just insensitive, it's bloody patriarchal. Try something radical: Be present to her suffering. Do her damn dishes. Hug her.418 views

Ugh, I'm disgusted with my brain. I see people walking down the street and there's like this killer inside me providing running nasty commentary about each person. Do you do this also?3,917 views

Driving in one of the many old Ford trucks he owned that were as loud as tractors and of course blew no cold relief on a hot summer’s day, he sprayed me in the face with a spritzer bottle full of water and told me to roll down the window – air conditioning.268 views

...why do we have this incessant need to place ourselves and others within the confines of a box? What does outrage me is when systems that are intended to educate and enlighten, by virtue of their actions instead perpetuate such lines of exclusion and divide.241 views

I have a confession to make. Sometimes, I take my yoga like a drug. But the endorphine high I get at the end of a vinyasa yoga class is not always what I need.1,699 views

In some circles, admitting you had a drink is tantamount to robbing a bank and riding away on your getaway car that is powered by the blood of freshly caught kittens, while eating fried chicken, potato gunning newborn babies off the roof of your apartment and snorting crack off the back of your Gita.23,148 views

It's an age old story: blah blah blah best friend blah blah blah betrayal blah blah blah heartbreak blah blah blah fury. You can probably relate, right? I know you can, because people are not loving and loyal all of the time. Not even me. Not even you. Someone once betrayed you, or broke your heart, and left you with a world of rage to simmer in, right? Or am I alone on a limb out here?1,211 views

Ujai breath and the occasional moans of intense release can be heard between the seductive beats of Kayne West and Lady Gaga. The sequence is like an erotic dance on the mat, charged by the electric energy in the room, orgasmic in many ways.2,678 views

A studio member asked if hot yoga could correct her flat feet. Frequently after yoga she sobbed from the pain. I said no guarantees but I'd witnessed miracles as a result of dedicated practice. One day she was waltzed into Yoga Passion thrilled to describe walking with wet feet & seeing dry spots where arches had never been.504 views

All too often Patanjali is taught as a “scripture” – a kind of revealed divine authoritative pronouncement to be learned by rote and believed at face value. For me this is antithetical both to a kind of philosophical depth, as well as being able to take a more anthropological stance in relationship tot his particular cultural artifact. It also bumps up against my sense that there is a distinction between a more conventional religious belief-based spirituality and the kind of counter-cultural, inquiry and practice-based spirituality that I see yoga representing in the West.891 views

Open up and listen to the voice that is trying so desperately to be heard above the clamor of your striving, surviving, on-the-run, monkey mind. That voice of calm that comes from the center of your being, that doesn’t have an agenda about what your momma told you was good or bad, doesn’t care about the color of your skin, where you pray or who you pray to—that’s your connection to your soul.974 views
