Life Lessons we can Learn from Children.

Via on Aug 16, 2011

As a kids’ yoga teacher, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how I can be better, do better, and offer more to my students.

This is all based on the presumption that I actually have something to teach these kids!

The fact is, there’s a lot more to be learned from children. Wisdom and practical life lessons don’t necessarily come from me, they happen in front of me.

We could all learn the keys to living a simple and joyful life by observing kids as they play with one another and interact with the world around them.

Simple Life Lessons Children Can Teach Us:

  1. Sometimes you just have to dance.
  2. It’s ok to color outside of the lines
  3. Laugh out loud
  4. Ask lots of questions because that’s how you learn
  5. Believe that anything and everything is possible: DREAM BIG!
  6. Love unconditionally
  7. Be fearless
  8. Live in the moment
  9. Share your toys
  10. Don’t hit
  11. Sing
  12. Hold hands
  13. Too much ice cream (or too much of anything) can give you a stomach ache
  14. Hug it out
  15. Get messy. Run through sprinklers, play in mud, finger paint
  16. Take a nap
  17. Make time for playtime
  18. We could all use a good cry every once in a while
  19. play fair

About Laurie Jordan

Laurie Jordan is the author of YAWNING YOGA: A GOODNIGHT BOOK FOR A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP based on her successful bedtime yoga series, Yawning Yoga and the creator of Little Sprouts Yoga for kids. She has a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University School of Social Work and is a certified yoga instructor for children and adults. Find her yoga practice here. Laurie took her first yoga class when she was 15 but the experience left a nasty taste in her mouth. She was kicked out for laughing at the instructors mantra, “feel the honey golden light in your...unmentionables” Eeww. Who would have thought that all these years later, that “honey golden” moment would be the one that influences her teaching the most? (Or at the very least, that it serves as a reminder to never say anything as hippy- dippy and dorky as that–and to always, always keep it real.)

  4. Lovely and wonderful points but I have one you forgot. If at first you don't succeed try again at least 59 times. If you still don't succeed shrug your shoulders and move on to the next shiny thing.
