I am in awe at the ongoing sacrifice of being alive to each other. Now I am willing to pay, all in, to the bone. There isn't a choice, and I have nothing else.1,885 views

In September my partner and I went to India, my first trip there after the death of Guruji. I had emailed Sharath to tell him we were coming and all was set, but I had this attachment to Mysore. I'd made more than a dozen pilgrimages to India and never once "traveled" or seen the other parts of the country.2,950 views

It’s something I never thought I would do. I know every cheater says that, but with every breath of my being I swear I never thought myself capable of being a cheat. I know this will be even more difficult for you to believe, but it wasn’t about lust or the thrill of secrecy. It was about me. Every time.2,300 views

Children are good at bringing to the foreground what’s in the back of the mind. So, no surprise that some time later my godson, Jackson, looked me in the eye and said, “Shakta, you have rainbows and flowers and birds, but what do you have for us boys?”1,317 views

When I get on the turnpike, I crack my windows. The fresh air keeps me awake, but the thunderous ocean sound of the wind relaxes my mind like my own Ujjayi breathing. With hands at 10 & 2, or maybe just one at 5, I zone in. Yes, I become one with the turnpike. This is why I rarely listen to music - because I want to hear and connect to the sound of the road. For me, on any given day, somewhere between exit 2 and 8 I lose myself to the drive. I’ve lost many conscious hours of my life arriving at my appropriate exit without the memory of how I actually got there. Was I zoned out and unaware? No, I was zoned in and completely connected.729 views

I image most Gurus who get caught with their pants down, are in fact wonderful teachers, but this 10% ends up ruining their careers, families and often huge practice communities. And the same is true with us. It is our shadow that we trip over again and again, no matter how enlightened we think we are. It is our shadow that causes us and others pain.1,291 views

Can a yogi eat meat? Can a yogi smoke? Can a yogi have kinky sex? Can a yogi do this? Can a yogi do that? Enough already with the rules of being a yogi!2,561 views

Recently I’ve had multiple run-ins with some bonafide assholes. I could blame it on Mercury being in retrograde or the collective pitta-aggravation of summer or something energetic like that, but in truth, I think the reason I’m head to head with all these jerks is that I am the one acting like a sh*thead! So, what can I do to change my attitude?2,152 views

In recent years there have been many new expressions of yoga created out of practitioners’ souls, divine gifts, as a way to bring even more students onto the path of yoga. The beauty of the physical practice of yoga is that there is no one right path, but rather all paths lead to the state of yoga: union of the mind, body, breath, and spirit.581 views

In 1939 when Gone With the Wind was released, the famous line: “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn” almost didn’t make it past censorship. In those days, the words ‘hell’ and ‘damn’ were taboo. Hard to imagine that now isn’t it?3,325 views

Consider that western varieties of yoga empower people to be more calm, more comfortable with themselves, and more peaceful - and isn’t that really the point? Allow people to be enlightened in their own way because if you haven’t learned that your way is not the only way then you haven’t been paying attention in yoga class – or maybe you’re just still waiting to be empowered.1,393 views

In a yoga class, setting up a vibe with lights, music, and space is such a key part of the experience. Even if you don’t practice yoga, these CDs will work well if you want a sacred vibe for meditation or a special ceremony. A few of them will work for cocktail parties, too.1,117 views

I spent 30 years being miserable and unhappy. There was no obvious reason, everything seemed to be going for me: good studies, friends, esteemed job... Hell, I was even getting laid. But beneath the façade hid a fearful, spineless creature, toiling in the pitch dark of suffering.812 views

Summer can be a time away from yoga as well as from home. Whatever the reason, like my home at the end of a travel-filled summer, your body and your yoga practice might be showing the effects of a little neglect. Never fear.726 views

It stands to reason that maybe all the art in the museums can be relocated to others around the world, the Pope could very possibly find a new place to live, or like stated above, buy an entire condo complex if he wanted-and the City should, could be liquidated to feed the world. It really isn't such a bad idea.1,365 views
