This Sunday, October 2nd, The Center for ReSource Conservation (CRC) will be presenting its Tour of Sustainable Homes — a showcase of 15 homes in Boulder County that represent extraordinary examples of sustainable living. The CRC has been presenting this tour for the past 16 years and has expanded the tour to demonstrate some of the practical and effective ways that people are conserving resources while also creating more livable homes and communities.

Tickets are on sale at the CRC offices (303-999-3820) and are also available the day of the tour. This tour is an inexpensive, educational and exciting way to visit homes and community organizations in Boulder, Louisville, and Lafayette that demonstrate sustainable living both inside and outside. Many of the homes and community stops will have experts on-site, explaining how technologies and conservation methods work and can be applicable to other homes. Tour participants can purchase tickets online or the day of at registration points at CRC’s office located at 2639 Spruce and in Louisville at Steinbaugh Pavilion.

Tour participants are eligible to use a Boulder B-cycle free of charge to travel around town and visit tour stops.  “We’re thrilled to be involved with this year’s tour,” said Elizabeth Train, Executive Director of Boulder B-cycle. “It’s a great chance to showcase sustainable transportation alongside green building and energy solutions.”

The City of Boulder is also sponsoring a free guided bus tour that will leave from the CRC office at 10 am and at 1pm. The bus will visit a number of the homes and community stops on the Tour of Sustainable Homes.  Kelle Boumansour of the City of Boulder’s Local Environmental Action Division (LEAD) noted that “LEAD is proud to sponsor the tour again this year, and offer participants an alternative transportation option.”  Tour participants who register at the CRC office, 2639 Spruce Boulder, and bring textiles, shoes, and plastic bags #2 and #4 for recycling will receive a free water bottle from the City of Boulder.

The evolution of the Tour of Sustainable Homes comes as the CRC aims to broaden the tour’s concept. Community members, tour sponsors, and partners had expressed increasing interest in seeing a wider variety of sustainable practices, products, and services.
