Day 1: The Junk Closet

Most people have a junk drawer. I have a junk closet.  It’s the place I toss all the things that I can’t deal with, fix, figure out what to do with, or think I might need someday.

I don’t like walking past this closet because I hear it whisper, “Deal with me”.

Yoga teaches us that we store experiences and emotions in the body.

Asanas open us up and we sometimes get flooded with feelings that we have pushed down. It’s like opening that closet door and trying to figure out where to start, what to let go of, and what is worth repairing. Our bodies give us clues as to what is holding us back. If we ignore these signs, it can lead to illness.

Listen to what whispers to you and notice the little things.

I spent an entire afternoon in that closet.  My son helped me arrange piles and toss things. Now I know exactly what is in there and have an empty shelf waiting to be filled with something new.

According to the principles of Feng Shui the things we stuff into our closets represent the experiences we haul with us in our daily life.  A messy closet can constrain choices for our future. Cluttered closets may indicate problems waiting to be dealt with. It can effect sleep, wear you down,  and even cause headaches.
