Yoga brings hidden parts of our selves to the surface. It’s a safe place to explore and let go. Our mats serve as a haven; where we challenge our limits, quiet our mind, and release our pain.
I let go of several yoga mats during Aprils 24 Thngs. I donated them to a participating Recycle Your Mat studio and kept three for myself.
I washed them in the tub and hung them to dry. I sprayed them with sweet smelling oils and witch hazel; which I will appreciate in child’s pose tomorrow.
I watch the tinted water swirl down the drain and thought about some of the emotions, revelations and hardships I have worked through on that mat, then let them wash away; grateful that I have the health and freedom to practice yoga.

Fill your tub with warm water and a small amount of mild detergent. Wash with a cloth and rinse in clean water. Lay your mat on a dry towel and roll the mat and towel together. Then unroll and hang to air dry. Don’t leave your mat in the sun to dry, it can ruin it.
Some people put their mats in the washing machine. I have never tried this so wont recommend it.
