"I think our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we’re being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I’m liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That’s what’s insane about it…"972 views

Earlier, taking some time to settle them into class with some guided meditation to bring their attention inwards and awareness to breath, I provided initial information about establishing drishti (gaze or focus) throughout their practice. We moved on in preparation for some warm-up stretches and as most had been laying back along a bolster, I asked them to move into a comfortable seated position. Noticing how they seemed a little groggy getting up I half-joked and said if they felt like it, they could stay laying down relaxing for the rest of the class.475 views

Ok, I get it. Your body’s a temple and your asana is a prayer. So does that mean the skin tight dress is a very small prayer flag and your heels are an altar?2,114 views

The transition from a vegetarian diet or an omnivore diet to a vegan diet can be a challenge, not only for the person making the change, but for anyone who might be cooking for him/her. It’s not as complicated as it might sound to find food for a vegan. For the person in the kitchen, a good way to start thinking about meal planning for a vegan diet is to break it down into manageable bits.1,199 views

Who has ever heard of a ‘healer’ claiming to have the “fastest, most efficient healing technique in the world”. Who ever had the balls to prove that claim with a public demonstration?944 views

Of all the concepts talked about in the yoga and mindfulness communities, equanimity has always intrigued me the most. I didn’t get whatever gene inclines a person thusly.1,296 views

“Look at me!” I hollered. “I’m DOING it! I was standing on my head in the middle of the room in yoga class, and I wanted my teacher to see me. For over two years, I had been putting my head and elbows on the floor, and faithfully “walking in,” as instructed. According to my teacher, if I walked in enough, my feet were supposed to get light and effortlessly float up off the floor. No matter how hopefully I walked in, though, my feet mulishly remained on the ground. Until today. Today, they had not-quite-so-effortlessly levitated! For about a second. BANG!1,092 views

We/I often talk about the process of journaling as being a cathartic one. However if you’re like me, we write the stuff and then close the book, pretty much like all of the other stuff that we have swept under the carpet of shame, buried in the basement of fear or shoved into the attic of anger. It takes real courage to re-read our journals. After all, our egos hate it when we look silly. Yet the real paradigm shift of the journaling process occurs when we re-visit our stuff in time, with distance and perspective.261 views

Julie Peters and Rachelle Tersigni of East Side Yoga Studio in Vancouver, BC, choreographed a yoga dance routine and performed it at the studio's Art Party, a night for the artists in the community to share what they do. It was inspired by nothing more than Shri, or Beauty in Sanskrit.1,076 views

In a physical context, love might look a lot like lust. In an emotional context, it could be conceived as a sharing of intimacy. In an intellectual context, it might be understood as a mutual fulfillment of practical needs.865 views

I met my soul face to face in Big Sur. Her name was Polytimi; she rode a Harley and wore all black with sunglasses. She traveled alone. I was traveling alone too, driving a car with nearly all my possessions in it. I kept the windows open to feel the weight of what was outside. We were on the edge of America, Polytimi and I, carrying home on our backs. She drove her bike and flashed peace signs to the other bikers she saw.444 views

Working side by side, hour after hour, with literally hundreds of volunteers, I realized I was having a powerful experience of the connection that yoga teaches about. I was feeling and seeing my role in a greater whole with the same intensity that I can feel a tight hip or a frazzled state of mind.413 views

Words are pretty powerful. We use language to understand the world around us, to understand ourselves. We use words to make stories to understand the world. These stories help us process the information overload on our brains everyday.885 views

I believe there probably is not one best way to make the switch to veganism, but having tried to be vegan a couple of times before it really took, I do have a few thoughts that I share with people contemplating the change, and I share 5 of them with you here.1,946 views
