We’d been invited to attend Amaro’s Mixology Competition, a squaring-off of six local mixologists to find the beverage that would be dubbed Amaro’s signature cocktail. The catch? The concoction must include at least one of Boulder’s one-and-only 303 spirits and bitters. .195 views

Working on not making such assumptions is tough, because our mind wants to do it. But, if we can go beyond it, we open up the opportunity to better communication with those around us, a deeper understanding of the diversity of experience, and an easier time achieving peaceful community (of all scales) relationships.1,017 views

Relational psychotherapy and meditation together deepen our capacity for empathy and compassion. The two modalities enhance each other and our ability to maintain contact with our internal and external environments simultaneously. Empathy is not about getting entangled or overwhelmed by another person’s emotions. Rather, it means learning to stay present with yourself while appreciating another person’s experience. There is a mutual understanding that we are all living in our own subjective reality and therefore no one’s truth is right or wrong. Similarly, compassion is not about fixing problems or changing anything, but rather it is about being with, “I see you. I feel you. I am here with you.” The ability to hold self and other together is what increases our capacity to love. The mindful relational journey naturally leads to psychological and emotional healing.773 views

What is the same prior to letting go? The gripping sensation with a bottomless pit of fear. The tightening around the heart and gut with spasms & contractions through muscles in the struggle with fighting for life. Surrender to the unknown. The illusion of control.297 views

Now I realize that there is only one thing I need to do to get back into that space of joy. Healing is this one thing. Personal development is the same as this one thing. Spiritual growth comes about as a result of this one thing. Healing.1,206 views

He stood 6’ 4’’ and his kindness towered as tall as he did. My mom would often say, “He was one of those guys that could light up a room with his megawatt smile as soon as he walked in. Are you clinically insane? Or at least all-the-way Type A? Do Bikram yoga. It’s a hot mess. When you’re done with class you’ll be clad shorts so soaked with sweat that when you wring them out in your bathtub you’ll release two and half cups of perspiration (all yours!).832 views

The people have sensed for far too long that the deck has been stacked. That our monetary system does not reflect the values of the vast majority of us. But many of us suffered silently, believing that not enough others would stand with us, were we to speak out. Until finally, nearly unbelievably, the fear of standing alone gave way to the joy of standing together.539 views

Of the countless intersubjective graces unfolding in Zuccotti Park and around the Occupy world, the “human microphone” is recapturing something as old as human learning. This is something sacred: a repurposing of voice, ear, and content that may serve no less than the re-membering of a more coherent human consciousness.348 views

Well, that’s how my teacher training started. Though I had been practicing yoga for years and living in the NYC metro area, I had no delusions about leaving a career that I love and making a living off a “way of life” – as yoga has turned out to be for me. All I knew for certain was that I wanted to teach, share my practice and have more yoga in my life.421 views

Since Facebook started in 2004, it has generated over 800 million users, connecting friends, family, past lovers, colleagues and even entire businesses around the world. With the average user spending 55 minutes per day on the site, we are really just beginning to understand the effects it is having on society—both good and bad. Clearly, Facebook has become a platform from which to launch, maintain and develop social ties. On the one hand, it allows us to communicate in ways that were never before possible, but on the other hand, it alters the quality of face-to-face relationships. On some level, we may be connected all the time, but on another level, we may be more disconnected than ever before.268 views

If we don’t get too complacent about what we are cooking, there are also some slightly less regular and delicious vegan comfort foods that can both warm us up and provide that “zing” that we sometimes need to keep from settling into palatal hibernation in the cooler months.1,669 views

I can see my grandmother now. Shaking her head in disapproval of this dissertation with a cute little pursed mouth smile, saying, "It's a pie! Not like you eat this every day!" Well Gram, you aren't married to a pastry chef. I just needed to know for myself if the white sugar needs to be replaced by agave. I'll let him stand his ground on keeping the white sugar in the cupboard, and I'll stick to more important things like keeping chlorine out of the house.6,347 views

These students were ready to not only practice and teach classical Hatha Yoga but were ready to pierce through the issues in communities in the world and make them right! The next year, I thought of shooting a video to document a few students and their changes throughout the program by asking them the same question repetitively--- "What is yoga?"581 views
