Does Back Pain Cause Depression?~Louise Haker

With the fast pace of today’s world, it can truly be difficult to find the time to exercise.

More and more, we’re waking up at the crack of dawn, and going until well after the sun has set. For most of us, there are children to get off to school, a job to do, homes to maintain, meals to cook, practices and social functions to attend and finally – eventually, sleep to get. We can’t just turn off all our responsibilities and go for a walk, or even a short jog, but we do need to do what we can to keep our minds and bodies balanced to help us avoid serious pain.

A great way to do this is to take a little time out of each week and go for a massage.

Massage has proven to be an effective treatment for much lower back pain and can help to relax our worries away. Why is it important to take this time when we get the chance to relax our minds and bodies?

As tensions and stresses build up in our daily life, we have physical reactions to both physical and mental stresses. These reactions can sometimes lead to what are commonly referred to as “knots” in our muscles – many of them in the back.

These knots are referred to by muscle specialists and massage therapists as trigger points, and can cause a great deal of pain as they constrict the flow of blood through the muscles. Eventually, this pain can lead to loss of sleep, decrease in productivity, depression, and in extreme cases even disabilities. For this reason, it’s important that we find ways to properly care for our bodies and avoid chronic pains such as lower back pain, especially persistent L4 and L5 back pain.

There are many ways one might accomplish this. There is water therapy for back pain, using a waist belt for back pain, magnetic belts for back pain and much more. All of these can be great, but very few of them are as effective or as relaxing as a nice, simple massage. Often, the massage only takes about an hour and chances are you may even know a friend (or your significant other) who would be willing to offer a massage every once in a while, especially when tensions are high and you’re starting to feel it.

By managing to fit in time for a massage every once in a while, you’ll help yourself to release the stresses of the week and keep yourself from experiencing some pretty severe pain. You’ll sleep better, you’ll feel better and you’ll be in a generally better mood than the average person suffering from lower back pain. You’ll find that you’re more productive and much happier to be doing whatever it is that you do. Your family, your friends and your body will all be thanking you, even if just subconsciously, if you take the time to care for your body and your back.
