Eastern wisdom advocates that human life is like everything else in the universe. It cycles between pleasant and unpleasant sensations. Instead of reacting to pain with aversion or, pleasure with craving, the gurus tell us to stay equanimous. Sit back and observe.144 views

In this third of seven pieces on Buddhist Yoga, we will focus on the second of the qualities that are foundational aspects of Buddhist Yoga—the first being renunciation and the third being the profound view. The second quality cultivated by practitioners of Buddhist Yoga is bodhichitta,[1] the motivation to attain buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings.407 views

Colorado is the home of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (as well as NIST and NCAR) and they are one of the national organizations participating in this weekends forum at the Boulder Public Library. Most people have no clue that I was an addict. Not as an irresponsible teenager trying to find herself, but as an adult. As a functioning, executive-level professional. As a mother, as a daughter, as a friend. Part of the horror of my addiction was that I couldn’t talk to anyone about it. I couldn’t ask for help without revealing my addiction and potentially losing my daughter, my career, and the respect of people I cared about. No one in my everyday life knew I was doing it while I was doing it.119 views

I’ve sweated to Bikram; shimmied to the oldies; meditated to silvery, shivery gongs. I’ve been massaged and manipulated, stretched and strengthened, pushed and pulled, lengthened and loosened. I’ve unleashed pranic fire, exhaled unhealthy desire, stirred and shaken my soul, rolled and rocked to the live kirtan beat.141 views

Enough talk let’s take it into practice. Stand in Tadasana and become aware of where your weight is over your feet. Perhaps the weight is more on the heels or more on the toes, no need to judge where it is, just create some awareness.1,307 views

At any one time, many possible futures are available to us as individuals and as a whole. Times of great change represent both times of great challenge and times of great opportunity. This is one of those times and it makes me excited. This so-called economic crisis is providing the exact prompting we need to change the way we see the world, to change what we value, and therefore to change what we create.1,344 views

Our society has lost an important transition from adolescence to adulthood: the spiritual rite of passage. What is a spiritual rite of passage? It is an event that can shape ones life and allow for compassion and understanding of oneself and others. One would expect the experience to be subtly different for each individual, however, the underlying message is: we are all one.99 views

o back in time to when we as a species were hunter-gatherers. Let’s say your ancestor is out picking berries when she hears the roar of a saber-toothed tiger and realizes that she is being hunted. Her survival mechanism, which has evolved over thousands of years, automatically takes over. Her hypothalamus sends a message to her adrenal glands and almost instantly she can run faster and jump higher.834 views

The mind is like muscle. It can be taught. Studies show that the highest achieving athletes are those who train not just physically, but mentally as well. Loving ourselves can appear so difficult; it seems much easier to love someone else. But if we don't start with ourselves then we can't truly care about anyone else. Rather, we love them so they will love us, which is the love we are not giving to ourselves.704 views
