Paraskevidekatriaphobia: this is definitely not a new yoga pose.

Well here we are. Friday the 13th: again. The year 2012 will have 3 Friday the 13ths in it.

I got a little curious about how investors percieve this “bad luck” day so I did a little research.

In an article written in 2009 according to the Wall Street Journal  it would appear that investors are actually quite skittish on this date.

It’s actually weird when you read the rest of the post because the day itself  generates gains in stocks on a pretty regular basis. (the study went back to 1985)

The reasoning behind this is not one that has been researched much but I sure hope that it is.

The whole idea of cause and effect: selling on this day because it’s a bad luck day which means buys for others might come into play.

Or maybe it’s the universe playing tricks on all those superstitious people: you know the ones who won’t walk under a ladder or have a black cat because it’s unlucky.

Maybe they’re just generating their own bad luck: maybe it’s karma or financial karma if they’re playing the markets.

I’m not really sure what it is but I’m thinking Friday the 13th (all three of them this year) might very well make me a very rich woman if I play my cards right.
