RIP Etta James.

Some quotes and songs that have inspired us over the years.

Today, Etta James died at the age of 73. As one person put it, Etta James, you are in heaven, at last.

“I sing the songs that people need to hear.” ~ Etta James

“Most of the songs I sing have that blues feeling in it. They have that sorry feeling. And I don’t know what I’m sorry about. I don’t.” ~ Etta James

“My mother always told me, even if a song has been done a thousand times, you can still bring something of your own to it. I’d like to think I did that.” ~ Etta James

“That’s where it begins and ends for me and these songs were the ones that touched me the deepest. It was like I was laying hold of some part of me that I didn’t even know was there until I let it out.” ~ Etta James

“The only time that I am really truly happy—when I feel at my best—is when I’m on the stage.” ~ Etta James

About Lindsey Block

Lindsey Block loves a good picnic, bottle glass of wine and a new recipe. She likes to do all the cliché things: sing in the shower, dance in her underwear in the living room—which her dog doesn't approve of, yet—and take long walks on the beach. She's currently struggling with misanthropy, but working on it every day—although it's hard living in California.

Great tribute. The world has lost an incredible artist. Etta no doubt led a troubled life, and it's good to know that at least she's found peace.
