The Writing On the Wall.

A Message From the Universe

I was awakened by pain at 5 a.m. for the fifth night in a row.

I stared at the glowing screen of my phone, trying to concentrate on something else besides the rebellion happening in my reproductive system.

I perused Twitter for anything to distract me when I found Yoga To The People Brooklyn. Seeing they had a 10 a.m. class, I decided to go.

Just last week, my brother had chided me: “This is why you do all that yoga stuff that you do, sis. To have it when you really need it. So maybe you should get your ass on the mat and quit your crying, ’cause that damn sure isn’t doing anything for you.”

Feeling like crap, get on the mat, I reminded myself. This is when you need it the most.

At 9:15, despite major physical and psychological resistance, I got up, slightly berating myself for waiting so long to make moves, and blaming my scarred up, beat up, body.

As I walked to the studio, I knew I made the right decision. I can read the writing on the wall.

This is exactly what I saw as I walked to the studio, in this exact order:

As I walked to class, I posted the photos to my Instagram & to my Twitter.

Soon after, I got a text from my friend Steven:

“Yo April, I was really, really, down this morning. Business has been rough, I’ve been marketing like crazy and it’s been a little slow hearing back from anyone. I really wasn’t feeling it, then I saw these pictures on Instagram and it was like God said, ‘Dude, trust me, okay?!’ Thank you so much.”

Don’t thank me—thank the universe. I’m just a humble messenger. But I’ve never not been thankful that I got up and practiced. So forgive yourself, trust me, get up, and in the words of my brother—get your ass on the mat. Even when you don’t want to. Zenspiration awaits you, my friends.
