No Matter Where I am—Yoga Is.

It doesn’t matter to me if I am in the smallest room in the world—I will practice.

I have deliberately stayed in hotel rooms with tiled floors and kept the AC off in order to practice when in India or traveling. I have also had furniture, tables and lamps removed. These landed in the hallway, another room or on the balcony if they were in the way. The hotel staff are always completely baffled by this.

For the most part, I have enough space for the standard yoga mat. The worst condition I ever had in India was the year I went to Amristar. Advertised as a spacious room, I had less than two feet from the bed to the wall.

My husband asked if I had figured out how to practice under the bed.

To continually practice like this takes discipline, dedication and not being attached to a ‘nice’ practice environment or even experience. When I return home in a week I’ll also have to practice in the bathroom while a new practice room is constructed.

As one of former yoga students remarked, “You are very devoted or you have a large bathroom.”

My temporary practice room at home

No matter where I am the practice goes on.

In my room in Mysore I make the space to make it happpen…..
