Photo of the Day: This is Why We Are Here.

Via on Nov 30, 2012

I was stewing this morning about how many people are willing to be unkind, or think the worst of strangers, especially in our speedy-speedy road rage, constant texting and Facebook update society.

But if you stop and truly look around, that’s the minority. We notice it because it irritates us, like a pebble in our shoe.

The beautiful truth is that love is all around. We care about other human beings. We are all basically good and want to help others.

This photo of police officer Lawrence DePrimo who stopped mid-shift to buy a new pair of boots for this homeless man brought tears to my eyes. It’s a beautiful gesture, and there’s a reason people keep sharing this photo. That desire to benefit others, to connect, to show love is in all of us. It’s why we’re here.

Take two minutes and smile and cry and then give a little love.

Kate Bartolotta is the strongest girl in the world. She is the love child of a pirate and a roller derby queen. She hails from the second star to the right. She doesn't know how to behave with all the apples and ibexes. She doesn't suffer from her eight million freckles, she loves them! Like a rolling stone, Kate gathers no moss. Kate loves kale, being barefoot, Dr. Seuss, singing too loudly, gallivanting, palindromes, blackberries and has far too many books for her own good. When she's not writing, you can find her practicing yoga, running in the woods, playing with her kids, devouring a book, planting dandelions, changing the world and doing her dishes. Kate does not play the accordion. She is a massage therapist, writer and a compassionate friend to all. This year Kate aspires to finally give up on learning to knit and will instead spend that time putting a little bit more of her heart on the page. Connect with Kate on Facebook and Twitter

Your bio is a complete fabrication and jeopardizes the integrity of this entire news organization!

    • My bio is largely from Pippi Longstocking. Another third of it is family inside jokes and the final third is true! Actually, most of it is true no matter how you look at it, even though I did rip off poor old Pippi.
