I Am Humpty Dumpty. Plus, My TEDx Talk on Falling into Fear. {Video}
The end is the beginning. This is what life has taught me thus far.
A couple of months ago, I had the honor of speaking at TEDxTempe.
A month prior to the talk, I was asked to present my “idea worth spreading” in a phone interview with the team. Inspiration for my idea arrived two hours before my interview. I was eating frozen yogurt with my daughters, when my youngest daughter climbed up on a low brick wall, arms extended like wings, balancing one tiny foot in front of the other as she sang,
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men,
Couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty together again.
And there, in this nursery rhyme rested my story—I am Humpty Dumpty. The great fall was the beginning of my journey, my evolution of self. The story was just beginning as the king’s men gave up.
What happened after Humpty was left broken, unfixable and damaged?
I’ve added some lines to Mother Goose’s masterpiece.
The beginning:
Humpty cried, Humpty screamed.
Humpty wallowed, and then-Humpty dreamed.
Humpty discovered what only Humpty could see,
Now, he could be anything he desired to be.
What is my “idea worth spreading”?
Fall into fear.
Why? Because, the fall is the best part—it is how we shatter into truth. All we have to do is jump into the realization—we are not our shells.
