I want to see advertisements that are juicy, and thoughtful, and sexy, and evocative, and full of beautiful images.
I see too many that are tasteless and shameless in the way they treat me as a consumer. Advertising may not be a beautiful idea to begin with, but its standard of quality and intelligence seems to be declining.
This is one of my favorite ads, done by Bruno Aveillan. Never mind that it’s selling Magnum ice cream bars, the video is truly a piece of art.
If you like his work, here’s another one:
Olivia does everything possible to disprove the theory that youth is wasted on the young. She is a world traveler, inspired by exotic places and new faces, unknown customs and foreign tongues. She finds herself driven to understand the human condition, and she believes photographs to be a raw documentation of that experience. Her work has included fostering infants in West Africa, island-hopping across South-East Asia, developing rural healthcare in Madagascar, building houses in the Philippines, and sunbathing in South America. When she isn’t busy trying to make the world a better place, she spends her time rock-climbing, learning new languages, and planning her next adventure. Visit her website at www.olivegray.com for a glimpse into her wanderlust.
