What!? My Yoga Studio is Closed During the Holidays! ~ Malin Bergman

How annoying, right? But fortunately, there are other ways to get your yoga on.

And I’m not talking about home practice—even though I’ve been known to do a lot of that lately myself! Rather, why not take a break from asana and make your yoga all about yama and niyama during the holidays?

Need ideas on how?

Did Santa get you new sheets and towels for Christmas?

Wrap up all your old blankets, towels and duvet covers and bring it to your local dog shelter (might be a good idea to call first and make sure they will accept your gift). Most shelters are in dire need of cozy blankies and other textiles to make their pooches’ beds as warm and cozy as possible. While you’re there, offer to walk a doggie, too!

Help the 85-year-old lady on the fifth floor with her grocery bags.

You’ll be doing good, getting some exercise and if your neighbor is anything like mine, she’ll make you scrambled eggs and hot cocoa afterwards! What’s not to like about that?

Consider making a donation to those who are not as fortunate as you.

Yeah, I know. We’re all broke and struggling with our own issues. But don’t forget that for the people whom you help through your donation, every little dollar makes a huge difference. Many non-profit organizations have donation menus on their websites, specifying exactly what a donation of as little as $20 will buy for the kids, animals, homeless or whomever they serve. Go to the webpage of your favorite non-profit and make a gift of whatever you can spare—and why not sign up as a volunteer as well?

Happy Holidays!
