It’s in my nature to help even if the outcome is death. ~ Lauren Martindale

I cannot look away

I am a not so
Innocent bystander
A spectator to this
Full contact sport
At the sight
Of this emotional
Wreck
I cannot look away
I race toward the flames
Adrenaline pumping and
I pull out the victim trying
Desperately to revive them
It is my nature to help
It is in my DNA to offer
My whole self in hopes
Of salvation
I do this knowing the
Possible outcome is death
Yet I cannot look away
There is no cure for what ails me
Who has an answer for
Obsessive compulsive
Giving of oneself
No pill or shot that rids me
Of chronic martyrdom
No surgery to remove
My bleeding heart
So the only thing I can do
Is be careful of who I let in
Who is deserving of all I
Have to give
There is someone out there
Who wont take advantage of my
Eternal optimistic niceness
Right?
Just one person who values me
Respects me and sees me
I don’t think ‘alone’ is a pill
I care to swallow
Yet I cannot look away

I am a mother, an old soul, a lover of art and music, and above all a spirit on a human journey. I am dedicated to growing as a person and experiencing as much as life has to offer. Starting over is hard and I find writing my ‘way’ through it makes the journey more rewarding.
