Allen Ginsberg’s Reading List for his Class, “Literary History of the Beats.”

Allen Ginsberg was an activist and student of Chögyam Trungpa. He helped found the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poets at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado in 1974. He taught there until his death in 1997. This is the reading list he handed out in his class, “Literary History of the Beats.”

    Beautiful! I remember seeing Ginsberg live here in the UK just a few years before he died, him having been one of my literary heroes all my life. I got a couple of books signed at the end, and I thought he seemed overwhelmed in the huge scrum of people. His vulnerability touched me.
    I think he was a great man. His writings are certainly unique. Wise enough to put his own work on the reading list! Thank you so much for this.
